What is FocusLock™?

FocusLock™ is the latest software technology for producing blur-free images from a microscope or video inspection system. When using a microscope to inspect a three- dimensional object, only a section of the object is in focus at one time since the different parts are at varying distances to the lens.  FocusLock overcomes that limitation and allows you to see the entire object in focus at the same time.

Is FocusLock the only technology that produces a blur-free image directly from a video camera?

Yes.  There are some high-cost image processing programs which require the user to save multiple images as part of a complicated process to view a better focused image.

FocusLock is different.  All the user does is start FocusLock and adjust the focus knob on the microscope.  FocusLock automatically collects the in-focus portion of each and instantly combines them into a completely focused picture right on the screen.

Where can I get FocusLock?

FocusLock is a plug-in for our Video ToolBox video imaging software.  Video Toolbox allows you to display and capture video on your computer; desktop or laptop.  Save a single image, a movie, a time lapse sequence, or capture the image directly into your favorite image-editing software for enhancement or annotation.  Print or e-mail images without leaving the program.  Video ToolBox works with any DirectShow device, including most webcams, FireWire cameras and the Zarbeco line of USB 2.0 cameras and frame grabbers.

 Can I Add FocusLock to My Product?

Yes, FocusLock can be added  to hardware or software products.  If you manufacture or distribute microscopes or video inspection equipment, consider offering Video ToolBox and FocusLock with your products.  Video ToolBox is the easiest way to display and capture video on any computer: laptop or desktop.  We can provide you a custom version of Video ToolBox with your company name and logo as well as special features for your imaging system.

For software developers, FocusLock may be added to a current product. Available as a software component, FocusLock™ technology can be incorporated into most software with minimal modifications.

Wire bonds, surface mount,  ball-grid arrays -- the right viewing angle is necessary to inspect complex electronic components.  FocusLock allows inspection at any angle without losing focus.  Here, FocusLock displays these wire bonds completely in focus.  (Click on an image to enlarge it.)

Complex shapes are difficult to inspect at high magnification since the area that is in focus is limited.  If you inspect precision optics, machine tools, or any other complex part, then FocusLock displays the entire object in focus at the same time.  Here, FocusLock produces a clear image of the tooling marks on the entire surface of this machine screw.

Biological samples aren't flat.  That used to mean you had a choice: high magnification or sharp focus.  Not any more.  FocusLock takes the bugs out of checking out bugs; or anything else that doesn't lay flat.  Here FocusLock provides a clear view of the eye and head of a flower beetle.  (Click on an image to enlarge it.)
